HOW TO BOTTOM

A List of Must-Have Gay Sex Guides, Books & Manuals

gay sex guides

UPDATED NOV 1, 2020.

At first, we wanted to compile the top 30 gay sex books as a service to our readers.  But when the list was completed we noticed some interesting things and decided to provide an analysis–a state of gay sex guides, if you will–along with the list.  Here are our top 3 findings:

Only A Few Actually Sell

Once you get past the first 3 or 4 top sellers in same sex manuals you’re looking at an abyss.  And even the top sellers don’t do all that well.  The #1 book, How To Bottom Without Pain or Stains sells about 5 copies a day (the author just released the 2nd edition)–and that’s counting ebook AND paperback sales. While Amazon doesn’t provide unit sales it does provide daily sales rankings for each book, which can be translated into rough estimates of actual book sales.

Most Don’t Sell AT ALL

Rare is the sale once you get past the top ten of queer sex guides.  As unbelievable as it may seem, 20 of the top 30 gay sex manuals can go weeks and months without a sale.

NONE Of The Top 30 Books Were Published Recently

2020?  As of November 1: One new gay sex advice book.

2019?  Zero new gay sex advice books.

2018?  Zero new books.

2017? Zero new books.

2016?  5 new books were published.

2009-2015? 25 books were published.

Looking at our data we can only come to one conclusion:

Porn Killed The Gay Sex Manual

This is pure speculation but our hunch (a guess with a college education) is that internet porn killed the lgbt sex advice book. The explosion of free internet porn along with the rapid rise of smartphones and tablets combined to give the gays instant mobile access, which we believe created a vast right hand conspiracy that put a chokehold on the genre.  Apparently, a safe word was never discussed.  If the life of the gay male sex advice book were made into porn it would no doubt be a snuff film.

That’s a real shame because porn can only show us the mechanics of sex.  You can look to porn to see spotless, painless anal sex, for example, but you can’t look to it show you how to do it, or how to deal with the emotional, physical and safety issues msm men struggle with.

How We Ranked The Top 30 Gay Sex How-Tos

We used a combination of sales ranking, # of reviews and the average of those reviews (by gay people, natch) for both the ebook and paperback editions.  Because Amazon ranks books on an hourly basis what you see on this page may not reflect a book’s actual sales rank on any given day or hour. Hence, we arrived at the sales rank by tracking them for the last month and using each book’s monthly average.  Did we miss any books?  Did new ones come out?  Tell us in the comment section.  Enjoy your soup!
