where to buy sex toys for menHow To Buy Cheap* Sex Toys

1. Choose A Handful of “Candidate Stores”

Use our table to narrow your selection to 3-5 candidate stores (it’ll keep things manageable)

2.  Click On Each Of Your Candidate Stores’ “Best Sellers” link

It’ll tell you what the good people of America are buying. Use the “wisdom of the crowds” to get an idea of toys that might part the waters for you (they’re best sellers for a reason).

3.  Click On Each Of Your Candidate Stores’ “Daily Deals” link

See if any of those best sellers (or something like them) is on sale.

* Always go for the cheapest high-quality toy, otherwise you risk putting toxic materials in your reproductive tract.

Our Ranking Of Online Sex Stores Explained

Go to Yelp, type in “adult shops online” and see what you get.

Zero. Nada. Zip. The only reviews you’ll find are for bricks-and-mortar stores in cities you don’t live in.

Try to find “best adult stores online” in Google Reviews.

You can’t.

Running into a wall with the search engines?

Try Googling “adult sex toys online” and see what you get.  Not much. A few helpful blog posts from sex toy reviewers like Bedsider, Heyepiphora,  Erika Lynae, and Phallophile Reviews

They’re useful (we wouldn’t link to them if they weren’t) but limited. How can you possibly expect even the best sex toy reviewers (and there are many) to give you advice on where to buy sex toys when there are more than 200 of them?

If a company has hundreds of thousands of customers is it fair to judge them by one critic (no matter how well-informed?)

You need something better than anecdotes to figure out where to buy sex toys online. You need data. You need to know what wide swaths of people are experiencing when they buy online.

Then and only then, will you get the best price for the best toy from the best store.

OUR GOAL IS TO GIVE YOU A DATA HARD-ON.

Data so erect you won’t need a vacuum pump to firm it up.

That’s why we’ve avoided giving our opinion and instead focused on presenting the results of customer satisfaction surveys conducted by independent, unbiased, Google-licensed “Review Partners.”

When reviews by verified customers weren’t available, we used “Trust Flow,” a metric web analysts consider one of the most accurate ways to judge a website’s value, relevance and search engine performance.

As you can see in the table, some online sex toy shops have verified reviews but most don’t. So how did we arrive at our rankings? Here is how it breaks down:

Online Sex Stores With Reviews

Our source is Google Seller Ratings. Google blends three sources to come up with a sex toy seller rating:

1. Google Customer Reviews

Formerly known as Google Trusted Stores, Google Customer Reviews is a free service that allows shops that sell sex toys online get feedback from verified customers.

The adult shops install Google’s code, which triggers a survey after a customer’s purchase goes through.

Participating stores can display a Google “badge” indicating their trust score. Here’s an example from Good Vibrations:

Google Customer Reviews is not the same thing as Google Reviews (the one you’re probably familiar with).

The difference?

Google ReviewsGoogle Customer Reviews
Reviews are user generatedReviews come from survey invitations to verified buyers
Reviews are easily accessible to the publicReviews, if they exist, are not easily accessible to the public
No proof of purchase requiredProof of purchase required
Every physical store participates whether they like it or not (they cannot stop customers from accessing the Google Reviews platform).Online stores can choose not to participate.
Applies only to physical storesApplies only to websites
Anybody can leave a reviewGoogle must invite you

This table explains why you can easily find Google Reviews for the best sex toy shops with physical locations but not if they’re web-based.

2. Third-Party Product & Seller Rating Companies

The vast majority of reviews that make up Google Seller Ratings are generated not by Google Customer Reviews but independent, third-party companies hired by adult shops online.

Wait, doesn’t that make the reviews suspect?

If the stores are hiring these companies wouldn’t they have undue influence on the results of their surveys?

No.

For two reasons.

First, stores that sell adult products online can’t just pick any company to survey verified purchasers.

Google will only accept data from third-party companies it licenses for that purpose.

The licensing includes a reputation audit and a general vetting to ensure that:

1. Third-party companies use proper research protocols.

2. They’re using procedures that prevent stores from skewing results.

Google has licensed only 32 companies world-wide to provide it with reviews.

Second, these licensed companies (the Googs refers to them as “Review Partners”) report their findings directly to Google, bypassing the sex shops that hired them, thus ensuring uncompromised data.

If an adult sex toy shop doesn’t use one of these trusted companies Google will not publish the results. And they certainly won’t accept reviews furnished by the stores themselves.

Bottom line: It’s almost impossible for a website selling adult sex toys online to game the system at any scale that would influence their ratings.

How Do These Google-Approved Review Partners Get Their Data?

The online sex toy companies pay a “Review Partner” like Bizrate or Trustpilot to conduct random surveys of their customers at checkout and again after their purchase is delivered.

Invitations to these surveys are initially rendered on the confirmation page and again via email.

A second survey is sent after the sex toy company delivers the goods so they can collect details about the delivery and receipt experience. Here’s a sampling of the kinds of questions these “Review Partners” ask:

* How easy was it to find the product you were looking for?

* How satisfied were you with the design of the site?

* Were you satisfied with the checkout process?

* Did you feel dirty about buying a sex toy?*

* Were you pleased with the range of products available on the website?

* Was the information about the product clear and understandable?

* Were you slut-shamed you for buying an XXL toy?*

* Were charges like shipping, handling and discounts clearly displayed before order submission?

* What were the prices like for similar products compared to other websites?

* Were you satisfied with the shipping charges?

* Were your desired shipping options available?

* Was the product delivered on time?

* Did you fantasize about sex with one of the models on the site?*

* Were you able to track the order to your satisfaction?

* Was the correct product delivered?

* Did the product meet your expectations?

* Was it of the expected quality?

* Does it work as described?

* Were you satisfied with customer service?

* Did the returns process meet your expectations?

* How many times did the sex toy make you orgasm?*

* We’re kidding! They don’t ask questions like that!

Here’s An Example Of An Online Sex Store Survey.

These exhaustive surveys are rather fascinating. Want to see a great example? Click here to see how another “Review Partner” (Bizrate) presents their in-depth analysis of ellaparadis.com.

The Formula For Google Seller Ratings

Google Seller Ratings = Reviews from Google Customer Reviews + Reviews from Licensed Review Partners.

The Googs uses this formula (occasionally adding in Google’s proprietary surveys) to create a star-rating system for the stores that carry sex toys for sale.

Yes, you can thank Google for knowing which store with sex toys for sale will satisfy your innermost sexual desires.

Who knew Google was a Peeping Tom?

How Did We Get This Treasure Trove Of Information?

If you’ve Googled some version of “where to buy sex toys” you will not see the information we’ve presented. If you go to Yelp or Facebook Reviews you will not see online xxx shop ratings anywhere.

So where did we get the data?

The information is out there but it’s a little like the G-spot–you’ve got to work hard to find it. Fortunately, we put our hands in the right places and voila–Google released a river of pleasure!

Then it was just a matter of spending a little time (okay, A LOT) aggregating the data in one place.

The information you see in our table is public and we’ll bet a spanking paddle that you’ve come across them before, only you didn’t realize what they were. Do this: Google “best adult stores online.” You’ll see an entry like this from Lovehoney.com:

Notice the stars? The rating? The number of reviews?

Delicious.

Google Won’t Display A Seller Rating Unless It Meets Minimum Requirements

They’re simple: Shops that sell sex toys online must get 100 unique reviews and these reviews must average out to a score of at least 3.5 on a 5 scale.

In other words, you must score better than average if you want Google to publish your ratings.

Why?

Probably because Google doesn’t want you blaming them for having a bad experience searching for places to buy sex toys.

Think about it. If you did a Google search and saw a bunch of companies with a thousand 1-star reviews you’d most likely think,

“Why is Google showing me the worst places to buy sex toys online? Maybe I should try Bing or Yahoo.”

We Won’t Use Data From Google’s “Review Partners” Unless They’re Part of Google Seller Ratings

We don’t want to get too deep into the weeds, but Google’s preferred “Review Partners” allow you to go directly onto their site and leave a review on your own.

Here, try it for the adult shop Pleasureplayz.com.

Google won’t use those reviews because they’re not coming from verified purchasers.

Now there is some value to these reviews because they ask you to verify your email and provide the invoice # of the toy you bought.

HOWEVER.

We tested these sites by leaving reviews for toys we did not purchase (we just made up an invoice #).

Guess what?

These sites published our reviews, even though we never purchased any toys.

This is why Google won’t use these reviews in their Google Seller Ratings.

And neither do we.

Why Do So Many Online Sex Stores Lack A Google Seller Rating?

There are three major reasons:

1. They haven’t signed up for Google Customer Reviews even though it’s free

2. They’ve signed up but the reviews suck–they didn’t reach Google’s minimum 3.5 average rating

3. They’ve signed up and passed Google’s minimum 3.5 average rating but they haven’t reached the 100 unique reviews threshold.

Although Google Customer Reviews is free to sex toy companies most have chosen not to use it.

Some because they don’t know it’s available, some because they haven’t gotten around to it, some because they don’t have the resources to manage it. These are all reasonable excuses.

HOWEVER.

We suspect there’s another reason that stores with adult toys for sale deny us the ability to see Google Customer Reviews on their sites.

They’re scared of it.

And they should be. Because nothing will implode your business faster than a survey of verified customers — if you’re running a store with poor customer service, inferior products and limited inventory.

This is not to say that the online sex toy shops in our table without Google Customer Reviews are automatically suspect. A lack of data shouldn’t exclude them from your consideration (though it should give you pause).

Okay, a lot of pause.

How We Ranked Shops Without A Google Seller Rating

In the absence of unbiased, independent reviews from customers with verified purchases we ranked stores by something called “Trust Flow.”

It’s a metric that analyzes how trustworthy a website is by looking at the quality of the websites linking to it. Trustworthy, high-quality websites have trustworthy, high-quality websites linking to them.

You can read more about Trust Flow here and here.

Trust Flow is a metric used by the world’s leading SEO companies (search engine optimization). It is without question the most accurate way of gauging a website’s trustworthiness.

Who We Didn’t Include In Our Ratings:

adult toys online

* Adult stores that carry sex toys but only as a secondary line of business (example: Cupid’s Lingerie)

* Mainstream stores that carry sex toys (Walmart, Amazon)

* XXX shops that specialize in just one or two products (autoblow2, esculpta)

* Theme adult entertainment shops (Geeky Sex Toys, Queen Cat)

* Manufacturers of sex toys who sell from their own website (Vevo, Njoy)

* Stores who primarily focus on one or two products (clone-a-willy, sex dolls)

* Stores that primarily do business outside of the US

* Sex shops whose websites looked like they haven’t been updated in at least a year

Surprise! You Can Buy Cheap Sex Toys At Your Favorite Retailers.

You can buy dildos at Walmart?

Vibrators at Target?

Vaginal dilators at Walgreens?

Kegel exercisers at CVS?

Yes, Yes! Oh, God, YES!!!!

The mainstreaming of sex toys took a giant leap when big box stores started carrying them. We can only hope they’ll eventually normalize sex toy advertising too.

Imagine a CVS ad:

“That Orgasmic Look In Her Eye? Maybe It’s Our Vibrators. Maybe It’s Maybelline.”

Or a Walmart ad:

“Our Rice Krispies Aren’t The Only Thing That’ll Make You Snap, Crackle And Pop!”

But we digress.

It’s great that sex toys have gone mainstream but do you really want to entrust your moist orgasms to people who sell dry goods?

GQ magazine perfectly captured our thoughts when they wrote:

“Guys, there’s a difference between a vibrator and a drugstore vibrator. If you buy a sex toy at the same place that you buy bar soap, it tells a girl one of two things: Either you can’t shop online because you’re not allowed to have a checking account (we see you, fugitives!), or you were already in line for some tough-actin’ Tinactin and thought, “Oh, what the hell,” then threw it in your basket.

Besides, a good vibrator cannot be had for pharmacy prices. A model you might give your girlfriend as a gift should cost as much as a nice sushi dinner. Ask yourself if you would eat sushi from a drugstore.”

Should You Buy Sex Toys From Amazon?

The world’s biggest store presents an interesting dilemma for the sex toy shopper.

On the one (lubed) hand, they absolutely have the cheapest sex toys around.

On the other (non-lubed) hand, those cheap sex toys might land you in the Emergency Room.

Let us explain.

Cheap sex toys are cheap for a reason: They’re often made with materials so dangerous they’ll give you the kind of after-sex glow only scientists at Three Mile Island could appreciate.

If you insert a cheap plastic toy made of Phthalates (an alarming number of cheap toys use it), body heat will break down the acids used to shape the toy, raising a serious possibility of leakage into your vagina or anus.

Er. My. Gerd.

The party is supposed to be in your pants, not in your hospital gown!

Do you really want toxic acids coating the membranes of your vagina or anus? You might not end up in the ER but you’re likely to experience itching, burning or blistering. And just think about what it’ll do to your reproductive tract.

All to save a few bucks?

You want sex toys made out of high-quality materials like stainless steel, medical grade silicone, and glass.

Sign up and be the first to see our upcoming side-by-side comparison of sex toys with body-safe materials.

In the meantime, check out this amazing post by the Sex Toy Collective, which details why and how using sex toys with body-dangerous materials can send you to the hospital.

If thoughts of the Environmental Protection Agency issuing a quarantine around your genitals doesn’t bother you then there’s another aspect of cheap sex toys that will.

They break.

And always at the most inopportune times, in the most unfortunate places. Recently, a great friend of our website was playing with a cheap anal butt plug. It broke off inside of him!

“We told you to use one with a flange!” one of our editors yelled. “I did!” he said. “The toy broke ABOVE the flange.”

Say it with us and say it slowly:

Er.

My.

Gerd.

Our friend couldn’t get it out of his arse so he had to go to the emergency room, where he went through a mortification ritual we’re trying to help you avoid.

The doctors put him up in a stirrup but couldn’t finagle the thing out. They had to put him under, dilate his ass and get the toy out.

The story doesn’t end there. Our friend had to endure numerous toxicity tests as the docs saw that some of the cancer-causing materials in the sex toy had leaked into his insides.

DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU.

Emergency rooms are horrible places to party–the lighting is awful, the costumes are lame and there’s no VIP line.

Be the first to see our side-by-side comparison of sex toys with body-safe materials.

Unlike proper medical equipment, sex toys aren’t regulated by the Food And Drug Administration, so companies can pretty much lie about being “phalate-free” or containing “body-safe materials.” You will never know the difference unless an expert tells you. Sign up here and we’ll tell you.

Amazon Will Help You Fake Orgasms With Fake Toys

Those delicious-looking toys on Amazon LINK: Amazon.com with the reputable brand names and the outrageously low prices?

Counterfeits.

A lot of them, anyway. And they’re hard to spot.

Counterfeit sex toys on Amazon are such an issue that reputable manufacturers feel compelled to warn people how to spot the fakes so they won’t be swindled. Like this one from the ever-popular Magic Wand.

Don’t put that final knot in your bondage rope yet, folks, there’s worse news coming. Even if you order a body-safe product from a legit manufacturer on Amazon you might still end up with a counterfeit!

This has to do with the way Amazon “commingles” listings from different sellers and the way they warehouse them. Sex toy reviewers Dangerous Lilly, Erica Lynae and Isabelle Kohn explain the details.

Basically, unless a seller is willing to pay extra, Amazon stocks all products with identical codes on the same shelf. So a Counterfeit Toy can sit right next to the Real Toy, setting up the potential for awfulness.

Let’s say you order a body-safe vibrator from a legit manufacturer. The Amazon bots go to the shelf where it sits alongside the fakes and grabs the nearest one. Do you end up with the real or the fake?

Say it with us and say it slowly: Er. My. Gerd.

Kinkly.com nicely summarizes the dilemma sex toy shoppers face when they buy from Amazon:

“Shopping on Amazon can be like a game of Where’s Waldo; there are good sex toys hiding in that sea of cheap Chinese knock-offs, but it won’t be easy to find them.”

We recommend you steer clear of Amazon but if you simply can’t resist its lightning-speed delivery, cheap prices and endless inventory then at least put in the work in to weed out the frauds and body-dangerous products. Lifehacker has a 5-step process to help you do that.

AVOID CHEAP SEX TOYS–No Matter Where They Come From

You don’t have to be a counterfeiter to use body-unsafe materials. Legit manufacturers do it too. In fact, a great deal of sex toys, even high-quality sex toys, are made of chemicals that belong in a pail marked “BIOHAZARD.”

We’ve singled out Amazon but the same goes for Target, Walmart, Walgreens and, for that matter, sex toy retailers whether they’re offline or on.

The bottom line: DON’T BUY CHEAP TOYS. Memorize our motto and you’ll keep yourself safe:

“Cheap Cheap” isn’t just the sound of a bird or a discount; it’s your Uber to the ER.

Where Can You Buy Low-Priced, High-Quality Sex Toys?

Sadly, “Ain’t Nothing Going On But The Rent” isn’t just a Gwen Guthrie song, it’s an economic truth. What if you just can’t afford high-quality sex toys?

We say you can. Here’s how:

1. Determine what high-quality product you want. Sign up for an email alert that’ll tell you when we publish our gi-normous list of affordable, high-quality sex toys.

2. Click on the “Hot Deals” links we’ve provided in our table of best sex shops. Many of these “Deal of the Day” pages have body-safe toys with significant mark-downs. Don’t see any discount sex toys for sale? Bookmark the pages and visit them again. Some change daily.

3. No Deal on the Daily Deals Pages? Most retailers offer substantial discounts for first-time buyers–some as high as 40%. Get thee to a new retailer, stat!

4. Check out sex toy reviewer Phallophile Reviews as she regularly updates the best deals in her discount adult toys page.

5. Buy a used sex toy. Gross? Maybe. Cheap? Absolutely. Here’s a great article on why people do it (it isn’t just the low prices; it’s the sky-high thrills).  Search your local Craig’s List or click here for Reddit’s used sex toy market.

6. Make your own. Seriously.

Why You Might Want To Buy A Sex Toy From A Local Retailer

There are great reasons to buy sex toys online: Convenience, a higher degree of anonymity, a safer space, a greater freedom to shop without feeling judged, cost savings (high-quality but cheap sex toys) and a better chance of finding specialty items.

But there are also great reasons to buy sex toys at your local retailer, too.

First, you can get expert advice from a “pleasure specialist,” who’ll guide your hunt for the perfect sigh.

This can be especially helpful if you’re picking out a sex toy for your partner.

Second, you get to see and compare the products firsthand. The best sex toy shops have ‘testers’ like you see at perfume counters. You can actually pick them up, see how they feel, or if they’re battery-operated, turn them on and judge whether the vibration’s too weak or too strong.

Third, if you’re buying one to enhance your relationship (believe it or not, people in relationships are much likelier to buy sex toys than single people.) You can both go to the store and treat it as an erotic adventure.

If you have the nerve.

where to buy sex toys

For many,  the embarrassment of talking to a complete stranger about their sexuality mixes with the fear of being judged for their preferences to create a powerful disincentive to visit a local retailer.

Plus, there’s a lingering belief that walking into a sex toy store is like walking into a sleazy porn set.

The good news is that savvy retailers understand that and have dramatically changed their shops.

Today, many of them feel like high-end fashion boutiques and they’re manned (or womanned) by exceptionally knowledgeable, professional sales people.

How To Buy A Sex Toy At A Retail Location

In The Shy Person’s Guide to Buying Sex Toys, Thrillist quotes the co-founder of New York’s Babeland giving spot-on advice:

“Think about what kind of sensations you enjoy and how you want to use a sex toy. If you’re shopping for a vibrator, do you like internal or external stimulation or both simultaneously? Thick or thin? Curved for the G-spot or smooth and straight?”

The point is that narrowing down your preferences will help you avoid the inevitable “analysis paralysis” you get from staring at a wall of endless sex toys.

Huffington Post has some pretty good advice, too.

Mashable has a funny but useful primer they call 10 Essential Dos And Don’ts When Visiting A Sex Shop. Our favorite tip:

Don’t ask, “You stick it up WHERE?!” Try instead, “How is this toy used?”

How Many Retail Adult Shops Are There?

Almost 800 physical locations in the US, according to a contributor at Quora, who researched the subject and uploaded a sample spreadsheet.

He estimates that a little less than half are family-operated and the rest are big chain stores like Hustler Hollywood and Castle Megastore.
